The Red Taffeta Gown

To read about the construction of this gown, go here.

This gown had it's debut at the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, WI on August 1, 2004.

Basic Overview:

This gown is made from red silk taffeta, flat lined with cotton muslin and lined in red/gold shot thai silk. The skirt is knife pleated directly to the bodice. The chemise is hanky weight linen and the blackwork cuffs were made for me as a wedding gift by Jen Thompson (I have such awesome friends). My partlet is also linen. The dress is worn over a fully boned effigy-style corset (without shoulder straps) and a matching farthingale made from orange duipioni.

Thoughts:

I love this outfit. Pure and simple. I was a little concerned about subjecting the taffeta to dirt and other things commonly encountered at faire, but I was pleased to find out that it holds up really well to routine abuse. :)
