Orange Duiponi Stays & Farthingale

This is what is worn beneath the Red Taffeta Gown .

Basic Overview:

The stays are fully boned with cable ties and laced with size 00 brass grommets. It is lined with red linen and sewn with red silk thread. The stays are patterned after the Effigy Corset, however I made them strapless. The farthingale was cut according to Alcega's Kirtle pattern, and two rows of boning inserted at the hem and 8 inches above the hem, encased in contrasting gold/red shot duipioni bias tape. The farthingale is lined in red cotton. It can be worn with or without the hoops.

Thoughts:

I had some concerned friends warning me against using duipioni in a skirt that would be dragged through dirt and dust, but I'm happy to say that it held up marvelously. The stays themselves are comfortable, provided one does not attempt to gorge oneself on a calzone while wearing them. Lesson learned. :P
