This spring I had a hankering for a chocolate brown wool gown... Who knows where these cravings come from? Sometimes they just hit you without warning. And almost instantly, I found myself in posession of 5 yards of the most luscious coat-weight chocolate brown wool. Laying it beside a deep burgundy silk sari I had set aside for a petticoat, it all came together so nicely that it begged to be made ASAP. The outfit is comprised of the burgundy petticoat, an low-necked kirtle that laces up the center front (barely detectible in the photos), a doublet pinked and slashed throughout and lined in dark red silk dupioni, and detachable sleeves that match the petticoat. I'm still in the process of making thread wrapped buttons for the doublet; it is pinned shut in the photos. The whole thing is worn over my linen effigy corset. |
